BAKER PANTS x “POPLIN, COTTON, WIND RESISTANT”

“Wind Resistant Poplin/ウインドレジスタンスポプリン”。

60s US ARMYのジャングルファティーグ初期に使われていた生地、いわゆる“ノンリップ”というコットンポプリン。

写真は、60年代のWRP製のベーカーパンツ。
“それがどうしたの？”って思われるかもしれませんが、これを買おうと思っても買えるものではありません。
この手の古着がお好きな方ならご存じだと思います。

けっして“珍しいからいい”、と言っている訳ではありません。
当時、量産された数は圧倒的に少ないですが、古着として巡り合っても程度の良いものが殆どない。
でもバックサテンの物よりも軽くて穿き易いし、穿いたときにシルエットが出易い。
個人的にはこのポプリン製が好きだし、高温多湿な日本の夏・秋にはこっちの方が向いてる。

“Wind Resistant Poplin.”

This is the cotton poplin used on early 1960s U.S. Army Jungle Fatigues—commonly referred to today as “non-rip” poplin.

Pictured here is a pair of 1960s Baker Pants made from WRP.

You might be thinking, “So what?” But this isn’t something you can just go out and buy, even if you want to. If you’re into this kind of vintage military clothing, you probably know exactly what I mean.
And I’m not saying it’s good simply because it’s rare. Far fewer of these were produced at the time, and even when you do come across a vintage pair today, it’s extremely difficult to find one in good condition.
Compared to the more familiar back-satin version, though, the poplin is lighter and easier to wear, and the silhouette comes through beautifully when worn.
Personally, I’ve always preferred the poplin version. And for Japan’s hot, humid summers and early fall, I think it makes even more sense.

The poplin “UTILITY SLACKS” from FATIGUE SLACKS F/W 2026 were inspired by exactly this kind of piece.
